Heart Beats London – new poetry night!

In the mean time though, my partner in crime Bea Colley, is starting up a sister night in London! I’ll be going down there at the end of October to read on the very first night, along with ace poet Caroline Bird who read at our last Liverpool event.  It should be a great night, so come along if you’re in the area. More details below:

Come… and celebrate the launch of Heart Beats London, with poets, bands, Halloween treats and cakes, fanzines and magazines, mix tape raffle, poetry films and more!

Malcontents: poetry & guitars at Walker Art Gallery

Malcontents

Malcontents

I’m pretty excited as I’ve been asked to do a poetry set at a late night event at the Walker Art Gallery later this month!

It’s part of the Long Night of the Abandon Normal Devices festival, where all the galleries in Liverpool will be staying open late and hosting cool music/arty events.

I’ll be doing a collaborative poetry & music set under the name Malcontents with guitarist, Ivan. It’s the first time we’ve done this live  – there’ll be experimental guitar sounds, drum machine backing  and tales of star-crossed lovers, from my first collection.

It’s on Thursday 24 September – the Walker opens at with DJ-ing at 5pm and we’ll be on around 6.30pm.

You can even get a sneak preview of the new Bridget Riley: Flashback exhibition from 8pm.

It’s all free, so come down after work and do something different with your Thursday night!

Poetry at the ‘Cabinet of Curiosity’, Manchester

Reading of 'Badlands' at the Cabinet of Curiosity, Manchester

Reading of 'Badlands' at the Cabinet of Curiosity, Manchester

This was a bit of a special night as I got to perform ‘Badlands’ with a Velvet Underground track (‘The Gift’) before our Dirtblonde gig. The whole stage was covered in tin foil because we had our own background ‘set’ inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory…this was all part of the cool ‘Cabinet of Curiosty’ nights that happen in Manchester.

I don’t make a habit of reading with a cape on but I think it worked in this setting! You can see more photos from the gig here…
